Dr Hammett is an Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). He is heavily involved in cardiovascular research, which began with a two year research fellowship / doctorate thesis at Green Lane Hospital in Auckland in 2001-2002. He undertook further training in the UK, followed by a two year interventional / research fellowship with Professor Stephen Worthley in Adelaide.

He was appointed to his current position in 2006, and since then he has been actively involved in the development of treatment guidelines and systems of care for ACS management within Queensland, with a focus on early triage and transfer of regional patients to PCI-capable hospitals.

Assoc. Prof. John Amerena trained in Melbourne before spending four years in the United States at the University of Michigan. He is now a Cardiologist at Barwon Health, and currently has appointments in the Medical School, Deakin University and the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. He is the director of the Geelong Cardiology Research Unit which is currently involved in many phase II-III clinical trials, as well as director of Cardiac Services at Geelong Private Hospital.

While still involved in hypertension, he has also become involved in research in atherothrombosis, especially with respect to antithrombotic/antiplatelet therapies, particularly in the context of atrial fibrillation. Heart failure is also a major interest, and he is also the Director of the Heart Failure Programme at Barwon Health. He has been on the steering committee of several of the major trials in these areas as National Lead Investigator, and has many publications in these fields.

Associate Professor Sarah Zaman is an Academic Interventional Cardiologist at Westmead Hospital and the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia. A/Prof Zaman has been recognized as a national leader in academic cardiology as recipient of the prestigious National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship (2020-2023) and as a NSW Elite Post-doctoral Grant recipient (2020-2022). She has also been recognized internationally within interventional cardiology; having been selected to the elite international SCAI-ELM (Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions Emerging Leader Mentorship) Fellowship (2019-2020). A/Prof Zaman has a PhD (University of Sydney, 2014) targeting prevention of sudden cardiac death following myocardial infarction. Her PhD pioneered the use of electrophysiology study early post myocardial infarction in guiding cardioverter-defibrillator Implantation. A/Prof Zaman also leads a Women’s Heart Disease Research Program at the Sydney University, Westmead Applied Research Centre. She also performs research into percutaneous coronary intervention for ST elevation myocardial infarction utilizing the Victorian Cardiac Outcomes Registry.

Associate Professor De Pasquale completed his under graduate degree at the Flinders University of South Australia in 1992 graduating with Honours.

He worked in Intensive Care prior to completing his physician training specialising in Cardiology in 2000. He then completed his PhD in 2003 studying the effects of heart failure on the lungs.

In 2003 he undertook a Clinical Fellowship in Heart Failure at the St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. He is a Senior Staff Cardiologist in the Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide and an Associate Professor at The Flinders University.

Dr Clare Arnott is a cardiologist who specialises in advanced cardiac imaging, women’s cardiovascular health and pulmonary hypertension Dr Arnott is a Staff Specialist cardiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and established the Women’s Heart Clinic (Charles Perkins Centre) with a particular focus on high risk pregnancies and post-partum cardiovascular health. In addition to this work, she also performs cardiac MRI, cardiac CT at Alfred Imaging (RPA Medical Centre), and is involved in cardiometabolic trials (The George Institute for Global Health).

Dr Arnott is a clinical researcher, with a post-doctoral position at HRI, where she conducts research into pregnancy- associated cardiovascular disease, preeclampsia and pulmonary hypertension. Most notably, she has a 2017 Winston Churchill Fellowship for her work in Women’s Cardiovascular Health (Mayo Clinic and Stanford University Hospital) and a Jean Hailes travelling fellowship (2019) for women’s cardiovascular health. Dr Arnott also engages in medical teaching as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at The University of Sydney and Unit of Study co-ordinator for the Masters in Medicine Cardiology Unit.
